The beach and ocean offer a wealth of things for families to enjoy when they’re on vacation in coastal North Carolina. Have you noticed how many people remain plugged into their electronics and the Internet when they’re trying to relax? The word vacation itself comes from the word vacate – as in vacating your normal surroundings and the usual way of doing things. Yet so many people bring along their laptops, cell phones, ipads and ipods, remaining plugged in the entire time they’re vacationing instead of enjoying time with one another.
Loosening the electronic noose can take some effort and general agreement by all but it can be done. You and your family will find that when you unplug you can be far more active and won’t have the worries of mobile devices falling into the water or getting buried by sand.
When you’re staying in a Sunset Beach vacation rental it’s goood to leave your electronics behind, locked in your rental. Go out for a day of fishing or rent some kayaks and/or jet skis for everyone and you won’t even miss that ringtone! Keep up the pace to stay active by taking in some of the local events as well like the following polar plunge.
On Saturday, February 23 the Carolina Beach Polar Plunge will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. The event includes a dip in the chilly Atlantic Ocean, live music, art, food, silent auction, car show, and more. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics New Hanover County. New this year: Run-N-Plunge 5K. Schedule is as follows: 11am to 3pm: Live Music and DJ, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Silent Auction, 1:30 p.m.: Costume Contest, and 3 p.m.: Polar Plunge.
