What’s Going on Over the Fourth of July Holiday

There are plenty of celebrations going on around Brunswick County NC over the 4th of July holiday besides the Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach concerts we told you about in our last blog post. If you’re spending your vacation here this summer Sloane Vacations wants you to be up-to-date with all the events in the area so your summer vacation is everything you hoped it would be and more. Grab the family, get on out there and have some fun!

Oak Island NC 4th of July Festival Beach Day will be held on July 1 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Middleton Park Extension, 46th Street, SE and Beachfront Cabana Area. Beginning with the horseshoe tournament, there will be live entertainment, family contests and inflatable rides at Middleton Park. There will also be a corn hole, bocce, sand castle, and volleyball contest on the beach in front of the cabana. A skateboarding contest continues the fun at the skate park. The fun continues with a live beach band and shag contest at Middleton Park and ends at dusk with fireworks.

The North Carolina Fourth of July Festival in Southport is held all day ever day between July 2-4 in Downtown Southport. This annual festival includes arts & crafts, parade, 5k run, food, entertainment, naturalization ceremony, children’s games and a whole lot more. For more info call 910-457-6964.

Shallotte SummerFest 2014 kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on July 3 at Rourk Gardens with a performance by multi-award winning Sea Cruz band. Sea Cruz has been recognized numerous times by the Carolina Beach Music Association. In addition to the concert being held from 6:30-8:30 p.m., the Shallotte Farmers Market will also be open from 4-8 p.m. and Dixieland Kettle Corn and Sunset Slush will be on hand for the festivities. Bring your blanket/chairs, a picnic and come have some fun. Free and open to the public.

On July 3 you won’t want to miss the Calabash Summer Concert Series featuring Jaded Mayberry at Calabash Town Park. Concert starts at 6:30 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. It features great beach and rock and roll music – perfect for a summer evening! The concert will be held at Calabash Town Park, 868 Persimmon Road Southwest. Grab some beach chairs and your dancing shoes and come on out! Concerts are free!

Summer at the Old Bridge in Sunset Beach. On July 4 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. children and their families are invited to come to the Old Bridge, 109 Shoreline Dr. West in Sunset Beach, to visit the museum and to decorate their bikes, wagons, scooters or sneakers in preparation of a parade marching over the Old Bridge. Games and activities for all to participate in. Free and open to the public.

The Ocean Isle Beach 4th of July Celebration takes place on July 4 beginning with a parade at 10 a.m. (line up at 9:30 a.m.) starting at the Museum of Coastal Carolina. The parade features decorated floats, golf carts, bicycles and walkers. All entrants will be judged and prizes awarded. There will be a free concert from 6:30-8:00 p.m. featuring Steve Owens & Summertime. Festivities will take place in the Museum of Coastal Carolina parking lot.

Wilmington, NC, is holding their Battleship Blast 4th of July Riverfront Celebration on July 4 beginning at 5 p.m. in downtown Wilmington as a Street Fair kicks off the holiday festivities. There will be entertainment by Heart & Soul in Riverfront Park with music, food and fun on Water Street, too. At 9:05pm when the sun has just set the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA hosts the 17th Annual Battleship Blast fireworks show. The Battleship complex on Eagles Island will be closed at 5 p.m. and all vehicles will be required to leave by 5:30 p.m.

Bald Head Island July 4th Week has lots of events taking place. Jam packed with fun activities, adventures and events, with something for just about everyone in the family. On Friday, July 4 a Golf Cart Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Shoals Club and has over 100 carts competing for prizes and bragging rights. From noon until 6 p.m. come enjoy a cookout, buffet and DJ at the official Independence Day Celebration at the Shoals Club. There’s a Sand Castle Competition at 2 p.m. and a Fireworks Cruise from 8-10 p.m. that leaves from the Bald Head Island Marina. Check their downloadable brochure for a full listing of all events.

The Holden Beach Summer Concert Series continues on Sunday, July 6 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with the Gary Lowder & Smoking Hot
Band performing. Bring the family and come out for a fun time at Holden Beach! Get ready to dance a little and smile a lot! Every Sunday night through August 31 at 6:30 p.m. Holden Beach holds free concert at Holden Beach Pavillion on Jordan Boulevard, Supply, NC. The music ranges from beach music to jazz to oldies and some good old rock n’ roll. Refreshments available for sale.
